Discover: Day 13

Weekly Memory Verse:

This is real love -- not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.
1 John 4:10 (NLT)

Meditation Thought:

Have I accepted God's free offer or am I still trying to "buy" it?

Today's Reading - Isaiah 55:1-7 (NET) Choose another translation

Hey, all who are thirsty, come to the water! You who have no money, come! Buy and eat! Come! Buy wine and milk without money and without cost! Why pay money for something that will not nourish you? Why spend your hard-earned money on something that will not satisfy? Listen carefully to me and eat what is nourishing! Enjoy fine food! Pay attention and come to me! Listen, so you can live! Then I will make an unconditional covenantal promise to you, just like the reliable covenantal promises I made to David. Look, I made him a witness to nations, a ruler and commander of nations. Look, you will summon nations you did not previously know; nations that did not previously know you will run to you, because of the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, for he bestows honor on you. Seek the LORD while he makes himself available; call to him while he is nearby! The wicked need to abandon their lifestyle and sinful people their plans. They should return to the LORD, and he will show mercy to them, and to their God, for he will freely forgive them.

Any time I feel I need to earn my salvation I am reminded of Isaiah 64:6 “All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away.” I also remember Romans 10:9 – 10 “That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord’” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.”
God's plan is simple we humans muck it up till it looks like a mud puddle after a hard rain. God let me not confuse the issue but receive the precious gift you so freely offer me. The price You and Your Son paid is more then enough for me. Thank You Father!

What's the Lord saying to us about returning to Him? Am I reading to deeply Lord? You know my heart when it comes to bringing men and their families back to the church Father. Work with me on this and guide me. I need your wisdom.

Sunday night, someone said that it is easier to buy salvation than to have faith in God's free gift and I think I know what they mean (I'm not saying it quite right). It and this scripture made me think of my dad who belongs to the Church of Christ group who thinks that baptism saves and you can lose your salvation. I don't understand how he can live with that cloud over him. He has to feel pressured to do the right thing all the time. I feel so light and free knowing my debt is paid without my doing anything but accepting. I freely partake of the Living Bread and Water and I am satisfied. The Lord does satisfy.
